Why Simple Money Tools exists

Most budgeting apps ask for a subscription, a bank connection, or both before you've even seen whether they're useful. Simple Money Tools starts from the opposite direction: a free spreadsheet and a free Chrome extension that work immediately, with no account required.

The Budget Tracker came first — a spreadsheet built to answer one question clearly: what's actually left over each month once everything's paid for. Personal Dashboard followed from a similar instinct — replacing a blank new-tab page with something genuinely useful every time you open the browser.

Personal Dashboard Pro is the next step: the same extension, with optional read-only Trading 212 and Strava views layered on for people who also want their investments and training in one place, without getting in the way of anyone who does not. It is a one-off £5 upgrade rather than a subscription, and everything that was free stays free.

What guides this

A few working principles

Honest by default

No exaggerated claims, no fake numbers. If something isn't built yet, it's labelled "Coming soon" rather than implied.

Free stays free

Features in the free tools aren't removed to push a purchase. Pro adds optional extras on top — it doesn't take anything away.

Read-only where it matters

Any integration that touches your accounts (like Trading 212) is read-only by design — it can show information, not move money.
